“What Does It Mean to Abide in Jesus?”

John 15:7 says, “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it shall be done for you.”

That’s a powerful promise—but it starts with one word: “Abide.”

But what does it mean to abide in Jesus?

1. Abiding means staying connected.

(John 15:4-5)

Jesus said, “Abide in Me, and I in you… for without Me, you can do nothing.”

Just like a branch needs the vine to live and grow, you need Jesus.

Without Him, we are spiritually dead.

Abiding is staying connected to the source of life.

2. Abiding means walking like Jesus.

(1 John 2:6)

“He who says he abides in Him ought to walk as He walked.”

Don’t just say you know Jesus—live like it!

Live with love, purity, boldness, and compassion—just like Jesus.

3. Abiding means holding onto the truth.

(1 John 2:24)

“Let that which you heard from the beginning abide in you.”

Don’t drift. Don’t compromise. Let the Gospel remain alive in your heart.

4. Abiding means obeying.

(1 John 3:24)

“He who keeps His commandments abides in Him…”

To abide in Christ, you’ve got to obey Christ.

You can’t walk with Him and live in rebellion at the same time.

5. Abiding means living in His Word.

(John 8:31)

“If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples.”

Don’t just visit the Word—live in it.

Let it shape your thoughts, your choices, and your life.

6. Abiding means staying close to His presence.

(Psalm 91:1)

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”

Abiding is intimacy.

It’s a life of prayer, worship, and resting in God’s presence.

7. Abiding means being Spirit-led.

(Galatians 5:16)

“Walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”

The Holy Ghost keeps you abiding.

You can’t abide in Jesus without the power of the Spirit.

You need the Holy Ghost!

Closing Call:

So what does it mean to abide?

It means to stay connected, obey Jesus, live in His Word, walk in the Spirit, and dwell in His presence.

And when you abide—you bear fruit. You have power in prayer. You live free. You live on fire.

John 15:7 says: “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done!”

God wants to answer your prayers.

God wants to fill your life with power.

But first—you’ve got to abide.

So I ask you today—are you just visiting Jesus, or are you abiding in Him?

Turn from sin. Come home to Jesus. Get filled with the Holy Ghost. And ABIDE.
